Fox's "American Idol" dominated Thursday's opening hour with a special results-show edition, but auds don't seem especially excited for the net's special preview of drama "New Amsterdam," which fumbled away most of its big lead-in and was handily defeated by ABC's "Lost."

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, the final special-night results show of "American Idol" kicked off the night with a big 9.3 rating/24 share in adults 18-49 and 26.2 million viewers overall, up a bit from the previous week. It more than doubled its closest pursuer, CBS' "Survivor" (4.0/10 in 18-49, 12.6 million viewers overall), while repeat offerings on ABC and NBC settled for just a 5 share of the audience.

At 9 o'clock, "Lost" (projected 5.4/13 in 18-49, 13.0 million viewers overall) was on par with the previous week's result and remained on top of the hour over Fox's "New Amsterdam" (3.6/9 in 18-49, 10.6 million viewers overall), NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" (3.5/8 in 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) and CBS' repeat of "CSI" (2.7/6 in 18-49, 9.8 million viewers overall). "Amsterdam" lost 3 shares points in its second half, while the Peacock reality show gained 1 share to overtake it for second place in 18-49 at 9:30.

After getting two post-"Idol" previews this week, Fox's "New Amsterdam" will have its official timeslot premiere Monday at 9 o'clock.

There wasn't a lot happening in the 10 o'clock hour, where all three broadcast dramas posted similar demo numbers: ABC's "Eli Stone" (projected 2.4/7 in 18-49, 7.0 million viewers overall), CBS' "Without a Trace" repeat (2.4/7 in 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall) and NBC's "Lipstick Jungle" (2.4/7 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall).
